New season of 60toSexy coming soon...
More info in the next few days…
Question for everyone: my back, mostly lower along the spine has been hurting a lot lately. When I do situps it feels like I’m bumping on my spine, and it’s been a painful standing up and sitting down. Any ideas on how to fix this? Could it be something worse than I’d like?
Help….

Sorry about the accidental non-fitness post this morn. Human error via tumblr app. But by all means check out my full time blog: blog.andrewmuto.com
A personal victory
If you guys remember, I had a major struggle with fitness, health, and diet in the middle of the year. I was in great shape at the start of June, but between food poisoning, bad diet, and a lack of exercise in Egypt, then a busy schedule in school, I had put on a bit of weight and lost most of my gains from the spring. But I’m happy to say that that’s on a reversal. I’m back on...

Seven days of fitness madness.
spytap:
So one again, I’ve found myself inspired by Taryn O’Neill to actually act on something I’ve been thinking of doing (damn her and her pesky actioning of items.)
Ever since I joined blip, I’ve been slacking off on my workouts. When I was in total control of my schedule, I had a routine of 10am workouts scheduled into my calendar. But that’s the thing about routines - they can get...

Muto-Final Progress Report
This was an interesting 60 days. Judging by the above progress pics, it’s clear that I gained some weight. I found that upping my workout schedule from 2 full body days to 3 (so that I could rack up points and keep up with everyone) resulted in a BIG increase in appetite…. and while I’m demonstrably stronger in bench press and pull ups, the overall cost was muscle...

To make the last couple days of this season fun, I’ve added a cleanse for the next 3 days. Should be fun.
Cleanse was great. Didn’t lift, and besides one cardio workout on the first day, took it easy. Massive headaches on the first day, but tons of energy the next 2. Now, re-entering normal eating by stepping in.

Was chilling in the mountains this past weekend. No lifting, but enjoyed a couple great hikes (photo from summit) and a challenging 10K on Sunday through the hills and light rain. Good fun.
10 days left.

I haven’t been working out because I herniated a spinal disc - what’s your excuse? Whatever it is, you’ve got 10 days left to get back on track and back in the game.
That’s a valid excuse, sad to hear. Sorry to hear about Barrett’s injury; incredibly tough to handle. Backs are serious.

12 Days To Go...
Sorry to hear that Barrett is out. Hope he heals up quick. The lifting has been going great but the eating hasn’t subsided. I still can’t figure out if it’s my will power or if the increased lifting and schedule is making me legitimately hungrier. On this last leg I’m going to focus more on eating and less on a crazy lifting schedule.
Whelp, it's official...I'm out.
So you may remember that I hurt my back in early August. I decided to take a couple weeks off from lifting to let it heal. Tuesday was my first day back in the gym and whaddaya know, I promptly herniated a spinal disc.
So seemingly dramatic statements aside, it looks like I wasn’t as healed as I should have been, and even a short gym workout after two weeks of rest was enough to have either...
Working out got a bit harder...
Well, I have a jorb now. It’s a good jorb. It’s a mostly enjoyable jorb. (yes, a jorb is a job).
This is a very good thing, but there is one tiny problem with it. Work is tiring. I don’t mean in the normal work is tiring way, because you were working all day and you just want to get home. I mean it’s one of those on my feet for 8 hours a day and only get to sit down...

Been battling a horrible crick / pull / knot in my left shoulder blade over the last week. * At first I couldn’t turn my head or lift my left arm very high, but after that first horrible day it’s just been more of a constant companion in my left shoulder (“hello!”). Been resting it, but wondering: is there a better way to treat it?
* At first I thought I got it from sleeping wrong,...

Only 16 days left!
You may not have done everything you wanted, or you might have done better than you ever expected. Either way, there’s time left for the final push to get you just a little bit farther. A lot can be accomplished in 16 days - a whole lot more than you might expect. Time to prove it to yourself.
Wherever you go, there you are
I spent the last few days at a psych ward, if anybody has been wondering where I was off to. I got discharged this Tuesday. I’m on new meds, and they are making me super tired all the time.
I’d like to apologize to the group for the drop off in participation this season.
With the last few days left, I’d like to at least try to eat better, if working out is a no-go for me...
Easing back into the swing of things
So apparently, you use your back for a lot of things. Like movement. Or stasis. Or breaking inertia in either direction.
I pushed myself too quickly from my initial injury, and paid the price by re-aggravating something that was healing. I’ve not been able to get back into the gym since Tuesday because I’ve been moving like an old man and groaning when I get into and out of chairs,...
Spent the morning enjoying Summer Streets in NYC, cycling up and down the center of Manhattan on roads usually packed with cars. Good times. Hardest part was dodging pedestrians that pay no attention to cyclists (dodged a lot of zombies), but all in all, 21.5 miles of good fun.
Rediscovering Routine
I’ve been moving to a new apartment and I missed 2 consecutive training sessions. It was tough. This week was all about getting back into a groove with this new apartment and my training sessions. I think I’ve got it. I need to find another gym closer to my apartment (4th St. Santa Monica ((BOOM)) ) so if anyone loves any gym west side, please let me know.

Death in the family, going out of town for the weekend for the viewing/funeral.
1044 points from today’s workout. Three more big workouts to go this week. I’m definitely going to break the top five. That’s the goal, now to get to work on it.

He wasn't kidding.
Me, showing boyfriend my Fitocracy profile: See, I've been working out almost every day.
Boyfriend: Wait, you've been working out?
Weighed myself this morning: 150 lbs.
Up from 145 lbs at the beginning of last season.
Success!
(I might be the only person on 60tosexy that wants to put on weight :)
Goals
Now that we are approaching the halfway point, I should probably list my official lifting heavy stuff goals.
Bench - Current PR - 155. Current 5x5 - 135. I think I need to do a new PR on this one. I would be pretty happy to nail something around 180-190.
Deadlift - Current PR - 255 Current 5x5 - 195. Similar thing, I feel like I have gotten much stronger on my deadlift. Looking to break...

31 Days To Go
Tomorrow marks the halfway point fo this season, and with only one person dropping off thus far (though a few on-the-cusp at the moment) I consider this the most successful season of 60toSexy thus far.
There are back-and-forth battles for third and fifth places, and a lot of passion and hard work going into your fitness. There have also been setbacks for some of us - which there inevitably will...
Where I've been
So I’ve really dropped the ball.
Excuses suck, but I at least have to try to explain. These last two weeks have been kind of brutal on me. Last week I went to San Diego for Comic-Con, where I didn’t work out, but did an unbelievably amount of walking with a 30 Lb. bag on my back all day. I would have entered that into Fitocracy but I had next to no Internet access and was running...
Rules and Regulations
Got a couple people bumping up against that week of inactivity limit…
Are we gonna be losing anyone else this week?

So Frustrating
60tosexy:
60tosexy:
My back is getting better but it’s not there yet. It’s been a very stressful week. Works has been insane and Chloe is in her 3rd week growth spurt. This is totally normal but it means she’s been feeding every two hours this week. Even at night. So I am exhausted, stressed and in pain.
I have not been to the gym in seven days. My head hurts. I feel like I am going to...

Bad form leads to injuries.
60tosexy:
I say it all the time. I tell other people - bad form plus weights leads to injuries.
Today I’m a victim of not following my own advice. My squat form isn’t great, due to having to take some time off for a knee injury, but I hoped to correct it as I added weight.
Well, today I just my lower back due to bad form. Nothing serious, just enough that I notice it when I move. My brother...

Protein Pancakes
I love food. I don’t want diets or workout regimens to get between me and my love. However, I AM willing to make some compromises….
PROTEIN PANCAKES.
Believe it kids. Super simple ingredient list:
(1 serving)
-1/2 cup old fashioned raw oats
-1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese
-9 tablespoons egg white liquid (from the pourable carton type)
-vanilla extract - teaspoon or more to...
On Walking
Yesterday I tried to add my walking total (tracked by my Fitbit). But something was awry.
Below are screen captures of three recent logged walks:
The last one is not like the other. Because the total seemed abnormally, high, I deleted it (and thus deleted the points). Didn’t seem fair. *
For the record, here my past 30 days of walking, recorded by Fitbit (that’s miles on the...

Paolo - S05E21 - For What It's Worth
I get super prone to bouts of skull crushing depression sometimes, for what it’s worth. It’s like dancing on a trap-door, and most of the time it’s exactly that, dancing on a trap-door. This week I fell down the trap-door. Fell down hard.
And on the outside, when depressed it seems totally rational to try and better the situation, maybe in this case, working out or something.

Week 3
Honestly, not much to say at the moment. I hurt myself on a deadlift on tuesday, something I was doing because I was frustrated with myself. Hurting myself didn’t quite help either. Going to get back into it with a long workout tomorrow. Checked my back with my dumbells a little today and I should be fine to do everything. I think I’ve only gotten like 600 points since monday,...
Rudy: Week 3 - Travelling Man
Well here we are three weeks in, and despite a schedule that has me jet-setting up and down the Californian coast, I’ve been trying to stick to a schedule and eat right.
The latter was much harder to do last weekend at iOSDevCamp. The 48 hour hackfest was fully catered with the most delicious junk, and needing the sugars to...

FUCK
Finally got back into a groove this week and I threw out my back. Happened on the first rep of my last set of deadlifts yesterday.
I am really upset. I hate it when my body does not do what I want it to do. I hate not being able to go to the gym for the next couple of days. I hate not being able to do what I want with my body.
Angry Evan is angry. I HATE feeling like this.
Keep Going!
I’ve been swamped with work lately while simultaneously hunting for a new apartment (found an awesome place 4 blocks from the beach in Santa Monica…BOOM) so it’s been tough to get to the gym.
I missed one workout, but got back on it today. I’m holding my own in the rankings, which is fun, but I’m also seeing some real results both in strength gains and body shape.
