60toSexy started out very simply: Rudy and I wanted to get in shape. Like any other aspect of life which is worth doing, that required planning, dedication, inspiration, and perseverance. As we’re both nerds, we naturally turned to the internet to help us with all aspects of that project. In doing so, over three “seasons” of 60 days apiece, we ended up inspiring and being inspired by others along the way.
Now, it’s time for rededication and a new approach.
Over the past two years, I’ve realized that fitness is a way of life, and that goals only beget new goals. It may be to lose 20 pounds or bench press your bodyweight, but either way once that goal is reached it’s never the end of the journey. Progress begets progress, and fitness (ideally) never reaches an endpoint. With that in mind, we wanted to figure out a way to let 60toSexy be more than just a 60 day sprint, but the beginning of a longer journey.
The first part of the problem was addressing reporting: each season started out strong, but tapered off along the way as people either got tired of reporting their progress, frustrated, or gave up completely. That made it tough to figure out whether people needed inspiration, help, were doing fine, or had just given up for the season.
The second is simple: people like to be challenged. People like challenging each other as well. We wanted to make this a bigger part of each season.
Thus, we have Season 4 of 60toSexy.
What’s new:
I’ve gotten permission from a new social network called Fitocracy.com to incorporate them into this season’s endeavor. Fitocracy treats working out like a game, allowing users to gain points, level up, and complete quests. I first discovered Fitocracy during the beta, and loved the way it logged stats, tracked points, and creatively spurred me forward into doing more.
Since Fitocracy is in closed beta, we’re going to begin by capping the number of participants this season at ten, including Rudy and myself. While we’ve occasionally had more and occasionally less, ten feels like a manageable number of total participants.
Since the Fitocracy stats are public, I’ll also be reporting every week on people’s progress right here. Yes, that means you’ll be publicly kept honest, so don’t bother participating unless you’re willing to let us praise, encourage, or jokingly shame you back into participation. There’s another fun reason behind this though:
Points.
As I said above, I love a challenge, and I love a contest. Since points are involved, there will naturally be a winner. Winners get prizes. This is no different. While we haven’t decided what the prize will be, rest assured that there will be some small token of your awesomeness to proudly display (or spend) in accordance with your victory. Rudy and myself are exempt from this, so the prize goes to whoever has the most points at the end of the season (April 30th.)
So, to wrap up, Season Four of 60toSexy is about to kick off.
- March 1st - April 30th.
- Limited to 10 total participants.
- Stats tracked on Fitocracy.com
- The winner at the end of the season (determined solely by fitocracy points) gets some small prize.
- We aim to kick ass.
If you’d like to participate, email me (Spytap at spytap dot net) preference will be given to first responders and past participants. More than anything, think of Season 4 as a chance to set some new goals, and put yourself in an environment to reach them. We want to be supportive, and we want to leave this season with a sense of accomplishment and a chance to set new, even higher goals.
Season 4 of 60toSexy is about to begin. Let’s do this.
