I say it all the time. I tell other people - bad form plus weights leads to injuries.
Today I’m a victim of not following my own advice. My squat form isn’t great, due to having to take some time off for a knee injury, but I hoped to correct it as I added weight.
Well, today I just my lower back due to bad form. Nothing serious, just enough that I notice it when I move. My brother commented on my bad form, saying that I was lifting too much with my lower back and not pushing through with my legs, and he was right.
And now I get to pay for it.
I should have followed my own advice, gotten my form correct, and then added more weight. As such, I’ll be taking a couple sessions off from squats, then dropping my squat weight until I get my form down.
Lesson: learned.
Again.
We’re doomed to get burned, repeatedly, by flying too close to the sun.
I was doing heavier weight on squat last season, but went down in weight to really nail form, and am building back up slowly. Better in the long-run. As you already knew. And as you reminded yourself.
Get well.
